10 Healthy Foods for Toddlers You Might Not Know About

Hey parents, looking for healthy foods for toddlers? The good news is; the world of nutrition is more than just broccoli and carrots. We’ll fill you in on some tricks of the trade and healthy foods for toddlers you might not know about. Some of these foods may surprise you, and some you may have completely overlooked or forgotten about.

Healthy foods for toddlers are of utmost importance, as children grow, the need for nutrition grows too. Children need nutrients to support growth, development, immunity, energy and brain health. So yeah, you could say that healthy foods and nutrients for toddlers and kids are pretty darn important.

What Makes for Healthy Toddler Food?

When it comes to choosing healthy foods for toddlers, we recommend choosing clean wholefoods free from synthetics and hidden nasties like refined sugars. It might surprise you that many packaged foods labelled safe for toddlers do not support their growth and development and are high in sodium and refined sugars.

Eating foods that are as close to their natural state as possible is the best way to choose healthy toddler foods, as well as foods high in nutritional value. For this very reason, we only include the highest quality, refractance dried whole foods in our kids’ superfoods. No synthetics and no artificial colours or flavours mean that kids’ tiny tummies won’t be upset and their bodies can actually absorb the nutrients

Ten Healthy Foods for Toddlers

By now I’m sure we can all agree that healthy foods for toddlers and kids are super duper important! So what are some healthy foods you can give to your kids and incorporate into their existing favourite foods? Clean ingredients are key, and foods in their natural state are best, however, some packaged foods and superfood powders are great additions and options, always read the label and nutrition panel. Below are 10 healthy foods for toddlers. In addition to this list, we also have an entire page of nutritional kids recipes, snack ideas and foods that we think your kids and your family will adore.

Seaweed snack

Seaweed snacks and nori sheets can be slowly introduced as soon as toddlers can start eating solids. Seaweed contains high levels of vitamin A, B and C, it also contains iron, calcium and magnesium, all great for growing and developing toddlers. Some seaweed snacks can have added flavours and salts so always read the label and choose a clean option.

Raw tomatoes

Raw tomatoes are high in vitamin C and antioxidants and make for a great snack when chopped into smaller bite-sized pieces. Hot tip, wrap some tomatoes bites with some seaweed for an immune supporting snack.

Kids Superfood supplements

Kids superfood supplements are a great way to add extra nutrients into their day and on top of their favourite plain foods, because we all know kids can be ultra fussy, so potent and pure wholefood nutrients from kids superfood supplements like Veggie Hero, Berry Immune and Breakkie Hero are an absolute win for kids wellbeing.

All kinda of berries

Berries of all kinds are packed with antioxidants and are a fantastic source of fibre. Fibre is a great contributor to a healthy digestion and gut microbiome. Try chopping a variety of berries up into bite-sized pieces and adding them into yoghurt with some Berry Immune sprinkled in for an extra boost.

A banana and avocado mash

Avocados (safe for toddlers over 12 months) are full of good fats and support brain, nerve and eye health in toddlers. Bananas are a great source of carbohydrates, potassium, folate, vitamin B6 and vitamin C. Mash them together and you have an immune bolstering and energy supporting soft snack that will keep toddlers feeling full.

Spinach pancakes

This one may sound a little funky, but trust us, it’s so easy and delicious. Simply add spinach in a blender to your favourite pancake recipe for a boost of calcium, antioxidants and vitamin K from spinach. Spinach can be a hard leafy green for toddlers to eat on its own so blended into pancakes like this is a hidden win!

Edamame

Edamame is rich in protein, omega 3s, folate, vitamin B6, iron, fibre and zinc; a great mix of nutrients to support growth and development and support the immune system. Make sure your toddler is a confident eater with smaller foods before introducing these.

Dates stuffed with peanut butter

Dates are naturally sweet, soft and great for kids’ immunity as they are high in antioxidants, vitamin E, B vitamins, iron, calcium, and potassium. Try stuffing these with smooth peanut butter (no chunks for younger toddlers) for some good fats and protein.
